ATTENTION AND CONCERN!

It has come to the attention of Tamil Nadu's official archery body - TAAT (The Archery Association of Tamil Nadu), which is the only unit duly recognised by the TNOA (Tamil Nadu Olympic Association), the IOA (Indian Olympic Association) and the AAI (Archery Association of India) that there is a sudden spurt of online advertisements by schools and associations claiming to teach archery and offering affiliations to unsuspecting members of the public.

This alert notice is for the benefit of managements of schools/colleges and the public at large to be extremely careful not to fooled by online advertisements or other claims that one is an archery instructor or is running a genuine archery school with an affiliation to TAAT.

SIX STEP PRECAUTION!

The following are SIX precautions an individual or school must observe before allowing anyone to teach archery.

1) CHECK CREDENTIALS OF THE COACH

Ask the person for a coach accreditation issued by TAAT. All official coaches accredited by TAAT to teach will carry this in person and will VOLUNTARILY produce it before introducing themselves. This card must have the date of issue/expiry, address and telephone numbers of the general secretary of TAAT, HU Hussaini - 098416-18386.

2) VERIFY TRAINING HISTORY

Ask the person who his/her coach in archery was, get the number and verify the claims.

Unless a coach has trained under the SAI (Sports Authority of India).
OR was trained under a coach trained there, for a period not less than 18 months, he/she is unfit to coach others.

Please remember that improperly trained archery coaches can do lots of irreversible damage to the unsuspecting archery beginners' shooting skills.

3) DO THEY HAVE PROFESSIONAL EQUIPMENT

Ask the coach if he/she has own recurve or compound equipment and if this equipment is licensed by TAAT. All professional and coaches' archery equipment carries the Hologram of TAAT and a barcode certifying it with date of licence expiry on it. This can be found on the lower limb of the bow. Coaches who do not have professional equipment and go around bluffing that they are coaches in 'Indian Archery' should not be trusted!

Any one can handle Indian bows which are very simple equipment and one need not have special skills to use it!

4) ASK FOR A DEMO

Ask the coach to shoot at long distance targets to demonstrate that one has not just bought a bow and does not know how to shoot with it.

The following distances must be checked:
1) For Recurve bow: shoot target at 90 mts distance.
2) For Compound bow: shoot target at 50 mts distance.

5) ARCHERY RANGE LICENCE

Anyone running an archery school or is going to some school, college or institution to teach archery must obtain a AROL (Archery Range Operating License) from TARCA (Tamil Nadu Archery Ranges Certifying Authority) of the TAAT after all safety aspects of safe shooting in a ground are inspected and adhered to.

Please check if the AROL date is valid or expired.

Anyone allowing their grounds for archery shooting without safety measures and AROL will also be liable for prosecution for endangering lives of the public as a single stray arrow can seriously injure or kill a person.

6) CHECK AFFILIATION LETTERS

If any association claims to have affiliation by TAAT (The Archery Association of Tamil Nadu) - the only official body to grant affiliations to clubs, schools and district associations, recognition by TNOA (Tamil Nadu Olympic Association) - the only official state body to grant affiliations to state sports association, recognition by AAI (Archery Association of India) - the only body to grant affiliations to state archery associations;

Please check letters of such claims and check with the respective bodies.

The contact numbers of the above bodies are hereby given with the contact person for verification.

TAAT: HU Hussaini - 98416-18386
TNOA: Mr. Lakshman - 044-65683424
AAI: Mr. Gunjan Abrol - 011-22460137

Please remember the above important SIX points to check the authenticity of archery coaches/schools.

DONT GET FOOLED BY PHOTOGRAPHS!

Fakes have a habit of carrying albums, showing off a few photographs with some kids holding bows and some VIP being garlanded or standing around.

Please do not get cheated by such pictures.
Anyone can take such pictures.
Some are known to have attended a national event as spectators and then posed as participants.

DON'T GO BY A PAPER CUTTING OR FEW

Be careful of coaches who go around showing paper cuttings as a certificate of their skills.
Anyone can be written about these days and there are many unethical ways of publishing news and photos in the print media.
This show is a definite indicator of the hollowness of their skills. Be very careful of such people.

THE FOUL MOUTHING COACHES

These are of another kind. They will foul mouth all others but themselves. When cornered with the SIX questions, they will blame it all on 'politics!'
It's wise to avoid such conmen.

ARCHERY SUPPLIERS IN TAMIL NADU

Any supplier selling archery equipment must get ASL (Archery Supplier License) from the TAAT and confirm to the rules of the TAAT to register all equipment sold with buyers details and must not sell any equipment to the public without obtaining the SAB (Sanction to Acquire Bow) from the TAAT.

Selling bows and arrows to public without getting a copy of SAB from them will endanger public tranquility and be a big threat to law and order in Tamil Nadu and result in immediate police action and prosecution under grave sections.

COACHES SUPPLYING ARCHERY EQUIPMENT

Be very careful of some coaches who take money without issuing receipts promising they will buy quality or imported equipment and delay indefinitely putting the blame on import delays, customs and other fabricated stories.

Always consult TAAT before getting imported equipment.

INSTRUCTIONS TO ARCHERY ENTHUSIASTS

All future archers are directed to get a SAB from TAAT or duly affiliated district associations before buying an archery bow from any supplier in Tamil Nadu or before bringing any bow bought anywhere else, into Tamil Nadu.

After buying a bow, the archer should obtain an AWL (Archery Weapons Licence) from the TAAT within 10 days of such a purchase or one week of bringing it into the state whichever is earlier.

Having a bow without license is a crime and can be confiscated by law and order authorities.

WHAT YOU MUST LOOK FOR IN ONLINE ADVERTISEMENTS AND WEBPAGES ON ARCHERY

It's very simple to find the culprits and the fakes.

TAAT, TNOA, IOA, AAI, WA, FITA

MOST IMPORTANT CHECK!

Check if the online ad has the most important logos and names of the official affiliating bodies for archery.

1) TAAT - The Archery Association of Tamil Nadu
2) TNOA - Tamil Nadu Olympic Association
3) AAI - Archery Association of India
Note: All the above mentioned logos can be seen at the top of this website.

If these are missing in their ads and webpage, then they are unmistakably fakes/dubious schools and groups.
They know well that using these names and logos can land them in serious legal trouble.
They will use fancy names and non existing entities to hide their hollow claims.
They will also use similar sounding names.

Eg: instead of The Archery Association of Tamil Nadu which is the authentic, official body, they will use Tamil Nadu Archery Association.
Instead of www.tamilnaduarchery.com which is our official webpage, they will use www.tamilnaduarchery.co.in

Our official email is tamilnaduarchery@hotmail.com
The fakes will try using tamilnaduarchery@yahoo.com or gmail.com

Please be very careful of these cheats. Their only aim is to confuse the genuine with the fake.

There is this amusing case of a habitual archery webpage offender who describes his association as recognised by 'the Govt.'
Which govt? The govt of Timbaktoo?? Not mentioned.

ONE POINT RULE!

TO AVOID ANY COMPLICATIONS IN ARCHERY, YOU ARE DIRECTED TO DEAL ONLY WITH TAAT (The Archery Association of Tamil Nadu) and authorised affiliates of TAAT.
